Obamacare, the marketplace and healthcare.gov: what the words mean
Obamacare is what most people call the Affordable Care Act, a law from 2010. The marketplace, or exchange, is where people buy health insurance on their own, not through a job. In Florida, the marketplace is the healthcare.gov site, and the U.S. runs it. A plan bought there is a marketplace plan, and each company's chip says if it sells them.

Centene files the smallest 2027 Florida rate request
Centene Venture Company Florida, the Ambetter entity, asked for a 3.87 percent increase for 2027. That is the smallest of 12 Florida insurers. Rates are proposed until OIR approves them.

Florida Blue files its 2027 plans
Both Florida Blue companies filed 2027 rates: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida asked for 26% more, Health Options (Florida Blue HMO) 9.8%. Florida Blue is not among the carriers leaving.

Sunshine State Health Plan ends its plans after 2026, and members move to Ambetter
Sunshine State Health Plan, Inc. ends its individual plans after Dec 31, 2026. Members who do not choose another plan move to Ambetter under Centene Venture Company Florida for 2027.

Oscar files 2027 Florida rates for both companies
Oscar Insurance Company of Florida asked for a 4.2% average rate change for 2027 and Oscar HMO asked for 10.4%. Oscar is not among the carriers leaving Florida for 2027.

UnitedHealthcare files rates for 2027 in Florida
UnitedHealthcare is in Florida's 2027 rate filings for plans people buy on their own. It asked for a 30.2% rate increase. That means it plans to keep selling marketplace plans in Florida for 2027.

AvMed files 2027 individual plans in Florida
AvMed's 2027 Florida filing is on RateReview.HealthCare.gov. It asks for a 9.8% average rate change. So AvMed is staying in Florida's market for people who buy their own plans in 2027.

AM Best affirms A+ (Superior) ratings
AM Best kept its A+ (Superior) rating, with a stable outlook, for two GuideWell companies. They are Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. and Health Options, Inc.

Cigna will stop selling plans to people on their own in Florida after 2026
On its first quarter earnings call Cigna said it will stop selling individual and family plans in all 11 of its states, including Florida, for 2027. About 369,000 members nationwide are affected. Employer plans continue.

Cigna adds HMO plans in South Florida for 2026
For 2026, Cigna added HMO plans in six South Florida counties, from Broward to Indian River. Cigna HealthCare of Florida, Inc. issues them. They sit beside its EPO plans from Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company.

Aetna CVS Health leaves the Florida marketplace
Aetna stopped selling marketplace plans in Florida on Jan. 1, 2026. CVS Health had pulled Aetna out of the exchange business in every state where it sold ACA plans.

That is the number Florida Blue lists for members and for individuals and families. TTY users call 1-800-955-8770. The individual and family line is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. The same number has a 24 hour digital assistant.
Is Ambetter the same as Sunshine Health?Not quite.
Ambetter is Centene's brand for marketplace plans. Sunshine Health is Centene's Florida Medicaid plan. Centene owns both. In Florida, Ambetter has been sold as Ambetter from Sunshine Health since 2014. Your Ambetter card and its member line are not the same as the Sunshine Health Medicaid line.
